Several years ago after yet another ironing board cover fail – material wearing thin, tearing with the foam backing disintegrating, I purchased some fabric along with a secondhand woollen blanket and made my own. A friend commented on it and asked me to make one for her. I made a few more and sold them on TradeMe, then at the Northcote College annual Affair of the Heart art exhibition, as well as some local markets. I began looking for a more regular and permanent way to sell the covers and decided on a website as a platform to do this.
I personally make each cover and to ensure a good fit I’ll often liaise with customers to confirm I have the correct size of their board. I stand by the quality and durability of my covers as I am still using the original cover I made 4 years ago! UPDATE: The cover lasted 6 years, until I spilt a cup of tea over it! By then the cover had faded a little but the wool blanket backing was still in good condition. I press the bias binding I make with a very hot iron so I did get good mileage out of that cover. 2nd cover now in it’s second year of use. (June 2020)
